The Red Jacket Regatta is open to youth with sailing experience aged 8-17. Pre-Registration is required, as a limited number of boats are available to competitors. To register, or for additional information, please email Joao Strout-bentes at youth@apprenticeshop.org or call (207) 323-3748.
The Regatta celebrates the glory of the world famous Clipper Ship “Red Jacket”, built in Rockland and launched in 1853 at the current location of The Apprenticeshop. On its maiden voyage in January 1854, The Red Jacket sailed from New York to Liverpool in 13 days; an incredible record that stood for over 100 years. This event connects our community to this proud piece of Maine history.
Sailboat races will be run off our dock and will be visible from shore. This is a great opportunity to tour the Apprenticeshop campus, and to see our young skippers and crews in their own little ships! At the conclusion of the event there will be an award ceremony and an informal barbecue for the sailors and the community.
