Welcome Kyle!

We have a new two-year apprentice. He’s been here now for 3 weeks, lofting, building molds, and sailing around Penobscot Bay on expedition. You can read more about Kyle below.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Dayton, Ohio. But most recently, I spent the last 6 years in Atlanta, GA.

What brought you to the Apprenticeshop?

My wife and I were on vacation in Rockland right around the time that I started becoming more interested in woodworking. We happened to stumble across the Apprenticeshop. After meeting all of the people and seeing the space, I decided that this is where I want to be.

What were you doing before you came here?

I was a music and wood shop teacher in Atlanta. I taught steel band and wind band, I started the wood shop at my school and taught a middle school creative engineering class.

What do you like best about the Shop so far?

I like the people and the camaraderie between everyone. And that everyone is willing to help and be inclusive. Everyone contributes and is grateful for the contributions other people make.

What has been most difficult for you in your first few weeks here?

Moving away from delicious Mexican food and not being able to find a good Mexican place nearby.

If you could have any shop superpower, what would it be?

That I could snap my fingers and everything would be cleaned up.
