The Washington County Peapod is a traditional double-ended rowing and sailing boat that originated in the Downeast region of Maine. Historically used by lobstermen and fishermen along the rugged coast, peapods are known for their stability, seaworthiness, and ability to be rowed from either end. Their symmetrical design allows them to maneuver easily in tight spaces, making them ideal for working around rocky shores and tidal waters.

Typically built using lapstrake construction, Washington County Peapods feature a shallow draft, a graceful sheer, and a moderate beam for stability. Many designs incorporate a sailing rig, often a sprit or lug sail, to complement their rowing capabilities.
