Pre-registration required!

The 20th edition of the Red Jacket youth sailing Regatta will take place on Saturday, August 12th, 2023. Plan to arrive 8am - 9am, races start around 11am and culminate in a recognition ceremony around 3:30pm. The regatta is open to youth with sailing experience aged 8-17; pre-registration is required, as a limited number of boats are available to competitors. This event is free, though tax-deductible donations are welcomed and help support our sailing, seamanship and boatbuilding programming!

The Regatta celebrates the glory of the world famous Clipper Ship “Red Jacket”, built in Rockland and launched in 1853 at the current location of The Apprenticeshop. On its maiden voyage in January 1854, The Red Jacket sailed from New York to Liverpool in 13 days; an incredible record that stood for over 100 years.  This event connects our community to this proud piece of Maine history.

Sailboat races will be run off the Apprenticeshop dock, 655 Main St. in Rockland, Maine and will be visible from shore. This is a great opportunity to tour the Apprenticeshop campus, and to see our young skippers and crews in their own little ships!

Have questions about who can participate or what to expect? Please reach out to Youth Program Director Joao Strout-Bentes at youth@apprenticeshop.org or call (207)323-3748.
