This 5-day overnight course will explore local islands by boat, camping on islands each night. Instructors, Jen Conover and Jude Masseur will teach skills needed to safely navigate and explore the Maine islands by boat. For 13 & 14 year old girls. July 9 -13
It is never too early to teach girls how to find the powerful woman within. The best skills we can give our daughters are resiliency, grit, self-reliance and the knowledge that beauty stems from strength - both emotional and physical. Being in the outdoors and learning how to take care of yourself and your community may be the best way to hone these skills and fully immersing girls in an expedition is the most exciting way for them to realize how powerful they truly are! One of the best times to do this is in middle school and are confronted with the realities that face them as they are navigating adolescence, changes in their body, the influence of peer groups and the newly forming independence that comes with their teenage years.
With this in mind, we are offering a four day immersion experience for girls ages 13-14 years old. Included in this experience are the opportunities to learn more about outdoor survival, group team building and building strength through challenging physical activities.
Both Jen and Jude are parents with extensive skills and experience working with kids both in the indoor and outdoor settings. This course will be a stepping stone for kids to get out of the harbor and learn more of the Maine coast and to safely explore these islands by boat.
Our Instructors: Jen Conover is trained in Wilderness First Responder and holds current CPR and First Aid Certificate. Jen also has a US Coast Guard Captains License and has taught numerous Outward Bound courses off the coast of Maine. She will be teaming up with Jude Masseur, a certified Maine guide and Teacher certified who has 20+ years working with kids in the outdoors. Jude works year around with children in schools developing and implementing alternative programs for kids. She is highly skilled in the outdoors with a focus on safety.
