Chris Battaglia spent six weeks paddling and documenting the Lower Mississippi River from St. Louis to the Gulf of Mexico in a 30 foot voyageur canoe. The expedition celebrated the completion of the Rivergator, a paddler’s guide to the longest stretch of free-flowing river in the continental United States. Join the 1,152 mile journey through stories, photographs, and video clips from the documentary currently in production, as we question our notion of wilderness, and create greater access to the awe-inspiring landscape found between the levees of the mighty Mississippi River.
Chris Battaglia is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores relationships with social and environmental impact, especially focusing on people and place. A California native, Chris recently moved to the Midcoast for its quality of living, while currently editing a documentary feature film. He is planning to build a voyageur canoe to engage deeply with Maine through its history, craft tradition, coastline, and interior waterways.
