2016 sailing season
Named for the Red Jacket Clipper Ship built in Rockland's North end. Join us for a two day celebration of sailing and boat building events. We will run a regatta on Saturday and Sunday in Optimist and 420's. There will be food and boat building demonstration ashore and opportunities to sail or row one of our traditional boats. More details will follow.
Classes offered in the afternoons and evenings, twice a week for 3 weeks for a total of Learn to sail or brush up on old skills. Taught by women, for women.
WS1 Tuesdays and Thursday July 12 - July 28 from 1 -4 pm $400
WS2 Mondays and Wednesdays August 1 - 17th from 4-7 pm $400
Adult Learn To Race runs all summer. Join us to brush up on your skills or start from scratch. Basic racing rules, starts, strategies, and spinnaker work. You'll sail on one of our keel boats (Colgate 26, 23' Sonar, 26' Soling). You will practice on Thursdays and race on Tusdays in Tuesday Night Races hosted by Rockland Yacht Club. Each session meets twice a week for 3 weeks.
No experience necessary. Each student may participate in our Keel Boat regatta in August.

Learn to sail on beautiful Penobscot Bay in one of our keels boats that include a 26' Colgate 26' Soling, 23' Sonar, Yngling 19', and 23' Mermaid. All of these boats are sloops and most have spinnakers. Classes meet twice a week for two weeks.

The Apprenticeshop's Community Sailing offers programs for youth in seamanship and sailing all summer! We have 5 different classes that run weekly for ages 5 - 18. Students learn rigging, sailing water safety, tides, weather, knots, racing, and seamanship skills. Sailors develop self-confidence, teamwork, and good sportsmanship while forming connections to the maritime environment that last a lifetime. Each class curriculum is carefully designed ensuring that all sailors are engaged in meaningful learning at their skill level.
Weekly Sessions Monday - Friday 9 am - 4 pm. $280

Spring Adult Sailing runs for 3 weeks, twice a week for a total of 18 hours. No Experience necessary. $400.

A TEAM RACING REGATTA TO BENEFIT HOSPICE. RACE 420S WHILE SUPPORTING A GREAT CAUSE. SAILORS ONLY NEEDTO SHOW UP AND SAIL AS A TEAM FOR SOLICITED DONORS SECURED BY HOSPICE AND THE APPRENTICESHOP. MORE DETAILS SOON.
After school sailing meets twice a week for 6 weeks in the Spring, $200. No experience is necessary. Sailors will sail in a variety of boat ranging from Optimists, 420's, traditional wooden boats and keel boats.

High School Sailing's Spring Regatta at home. Watch up to 10 area high school sailing teams compete in 420s in 'A' and 'B' divisions in the harbor. More details soon.
The Apprenticeshop currently hosts three high school sailing teams: Camden Hills Regional High School, Islesboro Central School, and Rockland Community Sailing -this is a 'conglomerate' team and includes students from the Watershed School, the Riley School, St. George School, Oceanside Schools, Medomak Valley School and home schooled students.
Sailing experience and Dry Suits required. $300/ 8 week season. (less than $40/week)
CHRHS practices on Mondays and Wednesday 3:30-6:30pm at The Ashop. RCS and Isleboro teams practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 -6:30pm at The Ashop.
JV and V regattas are on weekends during the season. Most are in-State. Coaches will decide their team's regatta schedule and which sailors will go.

High Tide 1:15pm
Take your navigation skills to the next level. Work on complex navigation problems with variation and deviation, realistic local scenarios, lights and signals, electronic tools (GPS, Radar) and basic celestial navigation. We will also discus weather patterns and interpreting data.
Meets Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-8 pm in the library classroom. $300
Some experience needed. $50 additional for tools and charts if you don't have your own.
Learn to navigate. $300+$50 charts and tools. Meets twice a week from 6-8 pm in the Shop Library classroom.
This course covers basic chart work, plotting, dead reckoning, lights and signals and radio communication.
