Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 9am - 4pmThis weekend-long program will teach the basics of bronze casting and offer a hands-on exploration of basic soldering and brazing for small custom metal marine hardware.
Master metalsmith Doug Borkman of RISD returns to The Apprenticeshop for his popular 3-day bronze casting workshop. This class covers all the basics of bronze casting: pattern making, sand casting, pouring bronze, polishing and finishing. Doug is an expert in metallurgy and provides students with a comprehensive background in casting methods.
Borkman teaches wood and metal shop practice in the RISD BFA and MFA sculpture programs and has previously taught at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine. He has worked on many design projects including the Providence Children’s Museum and Buddha Bar in NYC, and he has been a consultant for a number of large-scale projects including a public sculpture for the artist Martin Puryear.
