It’s happening! After 5 years of dedicated work by many Apprentices, we’re beyond excited to share that the Dublin Bay 24 will be launching this summer on Friday June 28th!

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate this momentous occasion!

About the Dublin Bay 24:
Designed by Alfred Mylne in 1939 as a commission by members of the Royal Alfred Yacht Club. At the time, it was the largest one-design yacht in Europe. Originally part of a fleet of eight, this particular boat is the second one to be rebuilt. While most of the boat is newly constructed, this project is technically a restoration since the old keel will be re-used.
The boat is planked in Sipo, an African cousin of mahogany. In contrast to many of the other boats currently in the shop, it is planked in the carvel style, which means the planks do not overlap. Half of the frames are made of laminated Sipo and the other half are steam bent oak.

Program Schedule:
• 4pm: Join us on the waterfront for some refreshments and snacks!
• 4:30pm: Gather on the pier for some remarks from our Executive Director and Apprentices who have been involved in the project
• 5pm: Launch time!!
• 5:15pm-7pm: Enjoy some live Irish music by Curlew and enjoy our waterfront as the sun sets.

Photographer Erin Tokarz has been documenting the DB24 build since the beginning, and will be showcasing her stunning work at the neighboring Steel House South Gallery—be sure to take a moment and explore the process as seen through her eyes!
